ICE agents clashed with protesters in Chicago’s Brighton Park neighborhood on Saturday after an armed woman rammed multiple federal vehicles around 10:30 a.m., prompting agents to open fire.

DHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Tricia McLaughlin stated on X that the agents were conducting a routine patrol when they were suddenly “boxed in” by nearly ten vehicles that surrounded them.

According to McLaughlin, one assailant brandished a semi-automatic weapon, forcing agents to return fire in self-defense. The armed suspect, identified as a U.S. citizen, drove herself to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The woman had reportedly been listed in a CBP intelligence bulletin last week for doxing federal agents and posting threats online, including a message that read, “Hey to all my gang, let’s f*** those mother******* up, don’t let them take anyone.”

Authorities confirmed that no law enforcement officers were injured in the exchange.

In response to the attack, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem announced on X that additional special operations units would be deployed to the area.

FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino stated that FBI agents are now on the scene to assist in the investigation.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Illinois confirmed that two individuals have been taken into custody in connection with what officials are calling a “coordinated ramming incident.” The investigation remains active and ongoing.

Hours after the confrontation, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker posted a series of statements accusing the Trump Administration’s Department of War of issuing an ultimatum: either activate the Illinois National Guard or allow federal authorities to assume control of 300 Guardsmen. Pritzker called the move “outrageous” and “un-American,” insisting that “there is no justification for deploying the National Guard in this state.”
