White House deputy press secretary Anna Kelly gave a statement to Breitbart news emphasizing the need for President Trump’s nominees to be confirmed with haste. Nominee for Religious Freedom Ambassador Mark Walker was specifically mentioned amid the administrations stated goals to promote religious freedom and fight antisemitism.
However, it’s not clear if Christianity will be strategically preferential to other religions in terms of the next ambassador’s purview. Which begs the question, is freedom of religion simply freedom of idolatry? For example, in a 2024 YouTube episode of Wrath and Grace, Pastor Doug Wilson explained the value of having utter contempt for idolatry. Flipping the bird to idols so to speak.
No indication yet if Mark Walker will view religions other than Christianity as idolatrous. He clearly has a particular affinity for Israel. He described a "spiritual bond" between the United States and Israel after traveling to the Holy Land recently.
Israel is considered hostile to Christianity according to Voice of The Martyrs. At any rate, Walker would be a significant improvement over Biden’s pick, Rashad Hussain. December 19th will be the last day this year for voting in the US Senate. Fallowing that, they won't be back in session until January 3rd.
