Neil Gaiman, British author and creator of works like The Sandman, American Gods, and Coraline, has faced several allegations over the past few months related specifically to rape and human trafficking. Though Gaiman has denied the allegations, even stating, “I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Ever,” the allegations have continued.
Several of the previous allegations have included claims that Gaiman would engage in illicit activity with women, pressuring caretakers and nannies into having sexual relationships with him. Details of non-disclosure agreements being signed in exchange for hundreds of thousands of dollars have also made the rounds.
The most recent allegation comes from a New Zealand woman who previously worked for Gaiman and his now estranged wife, Amanda Palmer, as their nanny. In the civil lawsuit filed in Wisconsin on Monday, February 3rd, by Scarlett Pavlovich, more disturbing details have been brought to light, including allegations that Gaiman would refer to Pavlovich as his “slave,” and made her refer to him as “master.”
The civil lawsuit also claims that Palmer, Gaiman’s wife, had a role to play in “procuring and presenting” Pavlovich to Gaiman.
Under the “Facts” section of the civil lawsuit, several incidents regarding Gaiman’s past behavior are noted, including:
11. Gaiman has a decades-long history of sexual misconduct consistent with the actions that will be described in the following paragraphs.
12. This misconduct includes sexual contact with multiple women who have not consented to his actions.
13. In cases where his victims submitted to sexual contact with Gaiman, his actions have often exceeded any consent that might have been granted.
14. Gaiman’s misconduct has spanned decades, commencing no later than 2007.
15. In an effort to conceal his misconduct, Gaiman has entered into several agreements to provide compensation to women he has victimized, in some cases, for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
It is important to note that, as of now, no criminal charges have been filed against Gaiman. However, several of his projects have been cancelled, including TV shows, movies, and other material related to published books, and some publishers have stated they will no longer publish his works.
