New Islamic Center in Sanford, FL

​A new Islamic center is being built in Sanford, FL. The Husseini Islamic Center is just steps away from the iconic St Andrew’s Chapel, Ligonier Ministries and Reformation Bible College campus of the late R.C. Sproul.

The steeple of St Andrew’s will still be the tallest structure in the neighborhood for now. No indication yet if the spire at Husseini will include a Muslim prayer megaphone. However, videos of speakers at the center are frequently against a backdrop of megaphone-laden minarets.

The culture of Sanford is predominantly Christian with many other Christian churches and schools along this stretch of Orange Blvd and beyond. Pew Research indicates that Muslims are no more than 2% of the overall Orlando population. Neighbors in the area should expect an influx of Islamic congregants here as construction of the center is nearly complete.

The construction of mosques in America has drastically increased in recent years. 2026 US Senate candidate Alexander Duncan posted recently highlighting a 42% increase in mosques in Texas since 2020.

Reports are also increasing of entire communities being built for Islamic residents such as in Epic City, TX. A viral X post from SKYRIDER4538 outlines the Epic City case.

Public officials are now considering what the appropriate response should be, given the dramatic rise in these developments across the country. For example, Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has recently signed a law prohibiting developments restricted to Muslims only.
