President Trump pardoned nearly all January 6th hostages in a flurry of executive orders marking one of the most awe inspiring inauguration days in history. The clip of this moment can be seen in the video bellow.

The extent of the pardons, as to who exactly would be included, was initially unclear. However, as of January 22nd, there were still at least 14 men remaining behind bars at the time of the bellow post from J6er Daniel Goodwyn. After corresponding with Daniel on January 22nd, he shared that the list of those still detained has decreased to 11, as Vitali Gossjankowski, John Banuelos, and Rockne Earles have been released.

I also had the chance to ask Daniel how it feels to be pardoned. The fitting first word of his response was that it feels, “Great.” He then continued, “Next move is trying to get us some reparations, restoration, restitution, a public apology, a refund of monetary damages, recognition, holidays, a monument, medals, retribution, and to investigate and prosecute those who did this to us.” The plight of Daniel and the rest of the J6ers if far from over. Although, it has certainly taken a turn for the better with President Trump’s second term now underway.
Civil Disobedience
Zooming out for a moment, the question that is often raised is: just how much civil disobedience is considered acceptable from the Christian perspective? For example, the classic proof texts on either side are the Hebrew midwives in Exodus 1:17 who, “feared God and did not do what the king of Egypt had told them to do,” and Paul’s instruction in Romans 13:1 to, “be subject to the governing authorities.”
There’s plenty of Biblical precedent to uphold both sides of the spectrum on this issue. Regardless of one’s views on how to align civil disobedience and faith, given their presidential pardons, the vindication and validation of J6ers is now evident.
Government Corruption
The topic of overall government corruption is central to this story as well. For example, Joe Biden pardoning his immediate family members on his last day in office was seen as a red flag for corruption. This specific instance of corruption is now being looked into by Speaker Johnson, as seen in the clip bellow.

Of course, depending on where you get your news, the story could easily be painted from a different perspective. Tennessee Congressman Tim Burchett summed up the quandary quite succinctly in a recent X post encouraging us to refuse to be lectured on morality by the legacy media.
Legacy media will spend the next four years talking about J6 pardons while their President pardoned pedophiles and murderers. Do not let them lecture you on morality. pic.twitter.com/xyN4xWq8Nu

As this story continues to evolve, a certain proof text of my own comes to mind. Paraphrasing Psalm 37:35-36,
I’ve seen a wicked man, but he soon was no more.
Goodness, fairness, and the rule of just laws appear to now be back on the rise in America. As Christians, and even simply as citizens, that’s something we can all celebrate.
